The Week of 10/28-11/1

If you want to correct your Biochemistry Test (up to a 55), you need to get it done this week, either during FLEX or a time that you arrange with me!


  • Mon 10/28:  Questions on Paramecium Lab?  Introduce membranes and the Bubble Lab.  Check off Paramecium Lab while you do the Bubble Lab. Check in on Cell Model Project.  Read 7.1-7.2 in new text.
  • Tues 10/29:  Dialysis Tubing Lab demonstrating osmosis and diffusion.  While your tube sits, do some research for your Cell Model Project.  Finish Dialysis Tubing Lab, due Thursday.
  • Thurs 10/31:   Turn in Dialysis Tubing Lab.  Agar Cubes Lab.  Cell Model Project due on Monday 11/4!

The Week of 10/21-10/25

SPARK Lecture on Monday 10/21 at 3:30 in 169.  The speaker is an engineer from Intel.  You may go to one SPARK lecture per month for extra credit, although remember that there is a limit on extra credit (5% per quarter or usually about 20-25 points).


  • Mon 10/21:  Questions on Cell Worksheet?  Turn in.  Microscope work.  Draw cork, onion skin, algae and euglena (if not already) and paramecium.
  • Tues 10/22:  How to calculate magnification of your drawings.  View bacteria through the oil immersion lens of the microscope.  Complete drawings and finish the lab hand-out for Thursday.  Read 6.1-6.5 in your new book (chapter 7 in old books in class).  The cell's cytoskeleton.
  • Thurs 10/24:  View and draw amoebas.  Turn in Microscope Lab.  Finish up the cytoskeleton.  Start plasma membranes.  Hand out Cell Model project.  Read 7.1-7.2 in new text.

The Week of 10/14-10/18


  • Mon 10/14:  Questions on Biochemistry Review?  Questions on Food Lab due Wednesday?  Hand-out Microscope Reading.  Introduce how to use microscopes and scale tool.  Draw cork, elodea, and onion skin.  Draw 2 critters.
  • Wed 10/16:  20 minute classes.  Turn in Food Lab.  Work on Cell Worksheet using class textbooks.
  • Thurs 10/17:  Take Biochemistry Test.  Continue working on Cell Worksheet (due Monday).  If time, continue with Microscope Lab.  Read 6.1-6.4 in textbook.
